UPDATE: Sheriff Releases Missing Rafter’s Name

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the rafter missing since July 17 after a rafting accident on the North Fork of the Flathead River.

Hungry Horse resident Robert Alsop, 37, is still missing, Sheriff Chuck Curry wrote in a statement. Search efforts are continuing on several miles of the Flathead River, Curry wrote, but diving operations have been suspended.

Divers’ previous efforts searched all downstream pools and eddies. Searchers from North Valley Search and Rescue and the sheriff’s office also searched from boats.

“We will continue to search by boat and by air, and river conditions will continue to be monitored with the possibility of resuming diving operations,” Curry wrote.
