Possession Limits Lifted on Lakes to be Poisoned

By Beacon Staff

The state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission has lifted daily fishing and possession limits on several lakes north of Seeley Lake as the agency prepares to restock the lakes with westslope cutthroat trout.

The limits are lifted effective immediately through Oct. 1 for Necklace, George, Woodward, Pyramid, Pilgrim and Upper and Lower Three Eagles lakes, including inlet and outlet streams within 100 yards of the lakes.

In September, the Necklace Lakes are scheduled for rotenone treatment, a poison that will kill the fish. The waiver allows anglers to catch as many fish as possible before the poison is applied.

The other lakes are going to be genetically swamped with westslope cutthroat trout, and the unlimited fishing will remove as many nonnative and hybrid trout as possible before the restocking.
