HELENA – The chairman of the Blackfeet Indian tribe is calling on state and congressional leaders to make sure that energy companies don’t shirk their responsibility in future oil spills.
Up to 840 gallons of crude spilled on the Blackfeet reservation from a broken flow line that FX Energy Inc. never reported and was discovered after a month, on July 12.
Chairman Willie Sharp Jr. sent letters Tuesday to Democratic Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester, along with Attorney General Steve Bullock.
Sharp is calling on them to order oil and gas producers in the state to a meeting to remind the producers of their responsibilities in the event of such spills.
Sharp says the meeting would ensure that the producers would have no excuse to ignore future problems.
