Football Roundup: Glacier Looks Sharp in Opener

New jerseys and all, the Wolfpack looked sharp in their season opener. Quarterback Taylor Hulslander threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Wolfpack stumped Billings Skyview, 21-10 at Legends Stadium last Friday.

Hulslander, in his first game as a starter, finished 18-for-26 with 197 yards passing and capped the game’s scoring with a 12-yard run. Kyle Griffith had six catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Gugliuzza caught four passes for 45 yards. Andrew Nelson had two catches for 20 yards and a TD. Aaron Mitchell led the rushing attack with 89 yards on 16 carries.

On defense, Trevor Kenkel led the Pack with 11 total tackles. Luke Halliburton had 1.5 sacks.

Glacier heads to Great Falls on Friday to play the Rustlers (1-0).

FLATHEAD — Despite wracking up nearly 500 yards of offense, the Braves had trouble keeping up with Billings Senior last Friday, losing a 56-28 shootout on the road.

New quarterback Matt Tokarz finished 14-for-30 for 221 yards passing with four touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had 136 yards rushing with two TDs. George Sherwood caught nine passes for 155 yards and had two touchdowns. Michael Managhan rushed for 58 yards on seven carries and John Collins had 38 yards on seven rushes.

Billings running back Chad Newell totaled 205 yards and four TDs, leading the Broncs.

Flathead hosts Missoula Big Sky (0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

NORTHWESTERN A:

WHITEFISH — Havre scored 47 points in the first half en route to a 54-25 victory over the Bulldogs in the season opener.

According to the Havre Daily News, the Bulldogs shuffled quarterbacks all game but couldn’t get the offense going against the Blue Ponies’ defense.

Connor Donahue connected on two TD passes, first to Brice Wehrli for a 23-yard score and second to Logan Harwood from 14 yards. Shane Christopher ran one in for a short TD and Gage Vasquez ended the Bulldogs’ scoring with a 42-yard TD catch from Christopher Forrest.

Whitefish plays at Hamilton on Friday.

LIBBY — The Loggers dropped their season opener 49-14 to Timberlake High in Spirit Lake, Idaho, last Saturday.

The Loggers head to Browning on Friday.

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Wildcats open the season on Friday at home against Corvallis at 7 p.m.

POLSON — The Pirates travel to Belgrade (0-1) for their season opener on Friday.

FRENCHTOWN — The Broncs get their season going at Stevensville on Friday.

CLASS B:

BIGFORK — The defending champs get a new season rolling with a road game against Class B’s newest member, Ronan, on Friday at 7 p.m.

EUREKA — The Lions open action at Cut Bank on Friday at 7 p.m.
