FWP Captures, Relocates Chicken-Killing Bears

WEST GLACIER – Montana wildlife officials say they have relocated an adult female grizzly and a yearling male that had killed nearly 100 chickens at a home near West Glacier.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say the bears were captured near Lake Five and relocated last Thursday to the Deep Creek area near Hungry Horse Reservoir.

FWP said in a statement Monday that most of the chickens killed were chicks, and that they were killed over a period of two nights.

The landowners installed an electric fence around their chicken and rabbit pens that wildlife officials say should reduce the chance of another occurrence.
