MISSOULA – Police say a shooting on the University of Montana campus in Missoula likely was an accident.
Detective Sgt. Bob Bouchee tells the Missoulian (http://bit.ly/nUh0Wh) a 20-year-old UM student had just purchased a shotgun and was showing it to friends at about 6 p.m. Monday when it went off.
The 19-year-old victim, a friend of the shooter, suffered an injury to his hand from the shotgun blast as he stood in a parking lot outside the student dining hall. Bouchee says the injury was not serious and the victim was treated at the hospital and released.
The shooting happened on the first day of fall semester classes. Bouchee says it’s possible charges may be filed against the shooter.
