By Beacon Staff

WEST GLACIER – Glacier National Park officials say search crews have found the body of a 27-year-old seasonal employee who did not return from a personal day hike.

Jacob Rigby’s body was spotted by a helicopter crew at about 2 p.m. Friday on a mountain known as “8888” in the southern part of the park. Officials say it appears he may have fallen about 800 feet on the north side of the extremely steep mountain.

Search crews are forming a plan to safely recover the body.

Rigby, who worked for the exotic plant team at the park for the past three summers, was reported overdue at 2 a.m. Monday and air and ground searches were launched.
