U.S. Forest Service officers arrested a man on suspicion of firing guns across the Flathead River for target practice.
Scott Joseph Haven faces a charge of felony criminal endangerment.
Court records say officers received a report from rafters that someone was firing a gun across the Middle Fork of the river on Sunday. Officers located Haven and found four guns and several types of ammunition.
Nearby, officers founds cans sitting on a tree stump on a gravel beach of the river. The line of fire would have caused the bullets to travel just above the water level, while thick vegetation would have prevented the shooter from seeing any rafts approaching on the river.
