Missoula Attorney Announces Supreme Court Candidacy

By Beacon Staff

Missoula attorney Ed Sheehy announced his candidacy for Montana Supreme Court justice this week.

Sheehy seeks to replace Justice James Nelson, who will retire in 2012.

A graduate of Gonzaga Law School, Sheehy has practiced law in almost every district court in the state during his 33-year career. According to a press release, he has tried federal cases in the United States District Court of Montana, the Ninth Circuit Court and the United States Supreme Court.

Sheehy said his breadth of experience and his knowledge of the law, legal procedures, and the legal system prompted him to run for the Supreme Court seat.

According to the release, Sheehy said the Montana Supreme Court is “the last place for every individual, corporation, business, and even the government itself, where justice can be obtained.”

Sheehy is currently one of the attorneys challenging the constitutionality of the state’s death penalty law on behalf of Tyler Miller, a Kalispell man facing capital punishment for allegedly killing two people last Christmas.
