Butte Students Must Make Up Strike Days

By Beacon Staff

BUTTE – Public school students in Butte will be required to make up the two days they missed last week while 15 administrators went on strike over their contracts.

Superintendent Linda Reksted tells the district’s calendar committee, which is made up of board members and teachers, will decide when the time will be made up.

The principals, assistant principals and directors in the Teamsters Union went on strike last Wednesday and Thursday.

A group of parents obtained a temporary order that ended the strike and classes and extracurricular activities resumed Friday. District Judge Brad Newman is holding a hearing this Friday to determine if that order should become permanent.

School board attorney Pat Fleming says both sides are trying to schedule a mediation session this week.
