The Postal Service says it plans to study the possible closure of 252 mail processing facilities nationwide, including four in Montana, as it continues to try to cut costs.
USPS spokesman Pete Nowacki says the agency plans to study moving mail processing done in Missoula and Kalispell to Spokane, Wash., and mail processing done in Wolf Point to Billings.
The Postal Service has already approved moving Helena’s outgoing mail processing to Great Falls by next January and will now study moving the sorting of the capital city’s incoming mail as well.
Earlier, the Postal Service approved moving the processing of Butte’s outgoing mail and all of Havre’s mail processing to Great Falls by January. The USPS also approved moving Miles City’s mail processing to Billings by next month.
