BOZEMAN – Two MSU students have acknowledged illegally killing a 2-year-old black bear in Bozeman.

Abdullah Yassin, a senior, and Ahmad Malallah, a junior, appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to four hunting violations each.

Yassin was sentenced to eight days in jail, fined $2,700 and had his hunting license revoked for 60 months. Malallah received the same jail sentence, was fined $2,500 and had his hunting license suspended for 42 months.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks warden Jen Williams says the incident was reported between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday. Police followed a blood trail through the woods in the southern part of the city and found the carcass of the 150-pound bear in a vehicle.

The bear was killed with a compound bow.
