Whitefish Mountain Resort to Open Saturday

By Beacon Staff

After delaying the originally scheduled opening day due to a lack of snow, officials at Whitefish Mountain Resort announced Tuesday Big Mountain will open with four chairlifts running on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Six runs will be opened on Saturday with Chairs 3, 6, 1 and 7 in operation, along with the Magic Carpet lift for beginners. Skiers and snowboarders hoping to access the back side where Chair 7 is located will have to download on Chair 1. The summit has roughly 25 inches of snow, according to the resort.

“We’re still praying for more snow. But we’re excited to be able to bring employees to work and get some people up here to slide around,” resort spokesperson Riley Polumbus said.

Warm temperatures and a lack of snow kept the mountain from opening on Dec. 3, but since then the resort’s snowmaking machines have been able to create enough snow to allow access to limited terrain.

“We’re excited to get the season started and put our employees to work,” resort president Dan Graves said in a press release. “Luckily good snowmaking weather has enabled us to officially kick off the season.”

Daily ticket prices will be reduced to $39 for ages 13-69 and $25 for ages 7-12. Super seniors 70 and over and children 6 and under are free.

The runs being opened are: Hope Slope, Chipmunk, Magic Carpet, Goat Haunt, Whitetail and Gray Wolf.
