PLACES: Stumptown Ice Den

By Beacon Staff

The Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish is the perfect place to glide across the ice no matter what the weather outside is doing.

The NHL regulation rink offers opportunities for open skating under a protective pavilion roof on well-groomed ice. Open skating times earlier in the day draw fewer people, giving youngsters and beginners more space to practice. Friday and Saturday evenings are much more popular.

Open skate opportunities abound the closer we get to the holidays, and if you’re looking for that romantic way to skate into the new year, the rink stays open New Year’s Eve until 12:30 a.m.

For the serious skater, or those interested in playing hockey, the rink hosts adult drop-in hockey as well as private and group skating lessons, youth hockey and is home to the Whitefish Figure Skating Club. For something a little different, grab a brush and hit the ice with your slider with the Whitefish Curling Club.

Support the Glacier Nationals, our local Tier III Junior A Northern Pacific Hockey League team, by attending their next home game against Yellowstone on Friday, Dec. 9.
