Aunt Loise’s Holiday Eggnog

By Beacon Staff

No matter how busy I get when Christmas comes around, the lights, the music and the tree always seem to rekindle that special feeling we had when we were children, as do those holiday culinary delights that excite our senses and fill our bellies. One of my favorites is good old-fashioned eggnog. And, as always, anything homemade is the best. So take some time with friends and family and enjoy some of Aunt Loise’s nog.

Ingredients:
Six eggs (separated)
3/4 cup sugar
2 quarts whole milk
1/2 cup rum
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
Nutmeg
Whipped Cream

Combine egg yolks and 1/4 cup of sugar. Beat until thick and lemony in color for about 5 minutes. Set aside.

Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar to egg whites. Beat until peaks are stiffened.

Gently fold egg yolks into egg whites. Then combine milk, rum, vanilla and salt, and mix well. Then chill thoroughly.

Garnish with whipped cream and grated nutmeg.

Happy holidays from all of us at FVCC!
