Hearing for County’s Interim Zoning in Doughnut Canceled

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County Commission has canceled its Jan. 12 public hearing on the proposed creation of an interim zoning district for the doughnut planning area around Whitefish.

As part of its legal filings against the county over the doughnut, the city of Whitefish asked Flathead County District Court for “an injunction to prevent Flathead County from implementing interim zoning” beginning with the Jan. 12 public hearing. According to Deputy County Attorney Peter Steele, a district court hearing was scheduled for Jan. 11, but the county sought to have it continued to a later date to have more time to prepare.

Whitefish would not agree to a continuance unless the county canceled the Jan. 12 commissioners’ hearing, Steele said.

Steele expects the district court hearing to be rescheduled soon.
