Tebow-mania is coming to Kalispell.
Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow will be in town March 7 for a fundraiser supporting Stillwater Christian School, the school announced on Tuesday.
The former Heisman Trophy winner will share his story of faith and football at the Flathead County Fairgrounds Trade Center as the keynote speaker for an event titled, “For Such a Time as This, an Evening with Tim Tebow.” Tickets are on sale through Stillwater Christian and proceeds will benefit the school.
A vocal Christian, Tebow has become a nationwide sensation in recent months after leading Denver to a dramatic turnaround this season. The second-year quarterback helped the Broncos make the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2005 and led the team to an overtime victory over Pittsburgh in last weekend’s first round.
Immediately after Tebow threw an 80-yard overtime touchdown pass to beat the Steelers, Twitter reported that there were 9,420 Tebow-related tweets generated per second, a new record for a sports event. The Broncos face New England this Saturday in the second round of the playoffs.
Tebow has been a longtime spokesperson of Christian values both on and off the field. While playing football at the University of Florida he had Bible verses written underneath his eyes. Since being drafted by the Broncos in 2010, he has continued to display his religious devotion in the NFL.
“We believe Tim’s passion for his faith is representative of the mission of Stillwater Christian School and are excited to offer him a platform in and for our community,” Stillwater Superintendant Daniel Makowski said.
The school reached out to Tebow in November hoping he would be available for an event in Kalispell and, just before Christmas, the school received confirmation.
“His reputation he has gained nationwide and in the spotlight as a faithful Christian and yet a tough competitor is the kind of role model we would certainly want to put in front of our students,” Stillwater Christian Development Director Craig Hunnicutt said. “He embodies all the qualities and characteristics we would want all our students to proclaim and embody.”
Tables of eight are being sold for $1,000 ($125/seat) and sponsorship tables are $2,500. Sponsorship tables will include tickets to a private reception with Tebow as well as autographed copies of his book, “Through My Eyes.”
