Mayor: Search for Sidney Teacher Suspended

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS – The mayor of Sidney says the use of civilian volunteers to search for a missing high school teacher has ended but FBI agents and local law enforcement will continue to pursue leads in the case.

Mayor Bret Smelser said Wednesday the decision to suspend the search for 43-year-old Sherry Arnold came after extensive searches of the eastern Montana town and surrounding areas.

The popular Sidney High School math teacher was last seen Saturday, when she left her home for a pre-dawn run.

FBI spokeswoman Deborah Bertram said Tuesday authorities were considering going door-to-door questioning residents in hopes of finding new leads.

Smelser says that effort will focus in an area where one of Arnold’s running shoes was found.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call a (406) 433-4027.
