LIBBY – A northwestern Montana man is jailed without bond after making an initial court appearance in his daughter’s shooting death.
The Western News reports 75-year-old James Louis Bonifas of Troy is charged with deliberate homicide for the Jan. 6 shooting of 41-year-old Suzanne Campbell. He made an initial appearance Monday. His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 27.
Bonifas called 911 at about 9 a.m. to report his daughter had passed away some time during the night. Court records said she was found sitting on a bed with a gunshot wound to her head. Officers asked Bonifas if she committed suicide and he said: “No, I shot her.”
Court records say Bonifas told Lincoln County detectives they had been discussing who should be cashing his checks.
