Powder Days Arrive, Finally

By Beacon Staff

Winter arrived late but with a vengeance this week. Whitefish Mountain Resort reported Thursday afternoon that the recent storm system has dropped 2 feet of snow on its summit in the last five days. And Blacktail Mountain reported 8 fresh inches Thursday morning.

“The storms that have rolled through northwest Montana this week have created the best conditions of the season so far,” Whitefish Mountain Resort President Dan Graves said in a press release. “It’s light, dry and sheer joy for skiers who have been waiting all season for that deep powder experience.”

Whitefish Mountain Resort has opened the last of its closed terrain, including Chair 8 at the base of Hellroaring Basin. More snow is forecasted for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The resort is now reporting a 61-inch base at the summit, and growing.

“With additional snow comes additional vigilance – make sure to ski with a buddy and keep them in sight,” Whitefish Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Director Tary King said.

Blacktail Mountain will be hosting Winterfest events this weekend, including the 10th Annual Family Cup Ski and Snowboard races.
