Members of the Whitefish Animal Group said 2011 was a banner year for the nonprofit and it shows at the Whitefish Dog Park, located on Second Street in Whitefish.
Located on 5 acres of fenced land east of town, the dog park features plenty of green space for people’s furry friends and a long, winding walking path. At one end of the park is a state-of-the-art pavilion and an obstacle course, featuring tires and culverts for the dogs to run through.
Benches have been placed nearby and it provides an excellent spot for people to sit and watch as their pets run in and out of the obstacles. According to WAG President Jim Lockwood, the addition of the course has increased visitation to the park. Lockwood said the park gets on average more than 30,000 visitors every year.
The board is already preparing for a busy 2012 when it renovates and expands with a pond and beach area just south of the park.
How to get there: From downtown Whitefish, take East Second Street 1.4 miles and turn right near the skate park. The park is located next to the Whitefish Airport.
