Flathead County authorities have recovered the body of a backcountry skier who was caught in an avalanche near Bigfork in northwestern Montana.
Sheriff Chuck Curry told KERR-AM radio that the man’s body was recovered Thursday afternoon and they were working to get it out of the Jewel Basin Hiking Area.
Curry says conditions remain extremely hazardous and search crews triggered several avalanches themselves on Thursday.
Flathead National Forest spokesman Wade Muehlhof said Wednesday the missing skier was wearing an emergency transmitter, and his brother reported the accident Wednesday afternoon.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
