Due to a lack of funding, there will be no horse racing at the 2012 Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo.
According to Flathead County Fairgrounds Manager Mark Campbell, the Kalispell Turf Club decided against horse racing this year after weighing the program’s costs and revenues “very carefully.” The state Board of Horse Racing would not provide monetary support to help offset costs, Campbell said in a prepared statement.
“Horse racing has always been an exciting program at the NW Montana Fair. It will be missed but we understand the challenges and costs associated in producing a live race meet,” Campbell said. “There have been no other persons or groups interested in conducting a 2012 race meet.”
