Man Pleads Not Guilty in Kalispell Teacher Stabbing

By Beacon Staff

A 19-year-old man accused of breaking into a home in Kalispell and stabbing a teacher has pleaded innocent to charges including attempted murder.

Dante Kirpal Kier also pleaded innocent Thursday to aggravated burglary and assault with a weapon.

Teacher Brian Bay was stabbed Dec. 12 but survived his wounds.

According to court records, Kier allegedly told police he broke into the home intent on killing the homeowner because “it felt good.”

Kier’s father, George Kier, says his son has a history of mental illness and had been living at a psychiatric hospital in California shortly before returning to Montana.

Kier remains in jail.
