As snow conditions at the lower elevations are sporadic, it is imperative to take advantage of accumulation when the opportunities exist. So get your gear together and hit the trails at The Glacier Nordic Center while you still can.
The Glacier Nordic Club maintains 19 kilometers of cross-country ski trails looping across the serene landscape of the Whitefish Lake Golf course. Trails, groomed daily, wind around trees and the sloping terrain is sandwiched between Whitefish Lake and Lost Coon Lake.
A new kiosk – designed and built by Marc Venery of North Country Log Works – makes it easier for skiers to check in, find information on Glacier Nordic Club and purchase season passes or pay the daily trail fee.
Take advantage of the Glacier Cyclery’s Nordic Ski Shop on the premises. Here, you can rent equipment and find expert advice and lessons with PSIA certified instructors.
The course is a great place for family outings and ideal for all levels of Nordic skiing. Much of the terrain is relatively easy for beginners. For those more advanced, your workout is only limited by personal speed. For a unique outing, follow the 3.5 kilometers of lighted trail.
Support the nonprofit by paying their $8 daily ski fee or become a member for $45 per individual and $90 per family.
How to get there: From downtown Whitefish, continue west on U.S. Highway 93. Turn right into the Whitefish Lake Golf Club and Nordic Center, across from Grouse Mountain Lodge.
