By Beacon Staff

A sailing team led by Kalispell’s Peter Sauer will represent the U.S. Pacific Northwest for the second consecutive time in the Regata Copa Mexico Olympic Edition, or the Mexican Sailing Championships. The regatta will be held in J24 class sailboats on the waters of Banderas Bay, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico beginning March 2.

Sauer’s team, Bound 4 Glory Racing, includes Bill Corwin of Lakeside, Scott Galbraith of Somers, Ginjer Yachechak of Kalispell and Tim Sauer of Billings. The team was invited to the Mexican Championships after winning the U.S. Pacific Northwest J24 Championships last summer.

Over 2,500 competitors from 26 countries are expected to compete in the event. The international event will include 60 teams from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Monaco, Puerto Rico, Peru, Sweden and the USA competing for the Cup over the course of ten days in what is considered one of the premier sailing venues of the world.

The regatta is sponsored by the Mexican Government and the Mexican Sailing Federations in support of international competition, tourism and goodwill.
