UPDATE: Avalanche Kills Snowmobiler Near Cooke City

LIVINGSTON – Officials in southern Montana have identified a 48-year-old Canadian man who was killed in an avalanche while snowmobiling north of Cooke City.

The Livingston Enterprise reports Park County Coroner Al Jenkins says the victim was Norman Pinsonneault of Mazenod, Saskatchewan, which is north of Glasgow, Mont.

Officials say several snowmobilers were riding a trail on Daily Pass Wednesday afternoon when the avalanche hit, partially burying at least two people.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center says avalanche danger remained high in the Bridger Mountains in the Cooke City area on Thursday.
