COLUMBIA FALLS — The newest members of Northwestern A have more than held their own all season in girls basketball, and that didn’t change on Friday.
The Frenchtown Lady Broncs lived up to their reputation as one of the best teams in Class A, routing Libby 51-18 in the second round of the Northwestern A divisional girls basketball tournament in Columbia Falls.
The top-seeded Lady Broncs advanced to Saturday’s championship game against the winner of Polson and Columbia Falls, which tips off at 4 p.m.
Ranked second in the final Associated Press poll, Frenchtown (17-2) was every bit as dominant as its record and ranking would suggest. The Lady Broncs held Libby to only eight points in the first half. The lead was 43-8 entering the final quarter.
Frenchtown finished with five players scoring five or more points. Two girls hit double figures. Sophomore guard Vanessa Stavish scored a game-high 14 points, followed by classmate Kayla Blood, who had 12. Sarah Lester scored eight, Angel Lowry added six and Abby Indreland finished with five. Emma Oostdyk chipped in four and Morgan Ray had two.
Libby’s Kim Tangen led the Lady Loggers (5-15) with nine points. Hannah England and Kelsey Klin each scored three and Shyla Stevenson had two. Becca Kyriss added one.
The Lady Loggers drop to loser-out action on Saturday at 2 p.m.
