The Flathead County Library System and the Whitefish Library Association reached a settlement in a lawsuit over library materials earlier this week.
On March 8, Deputy County Attorney Tara Fugina informed the Flathead County Commission of the settlement, which was reached through two days of mediation.
Both parties agreed to a division of assets that includes leaving books currently at the Whitefish Community Library there, and other books that were marked for that library will make their way back there.
Financial donations specified for the Whitefish Community Library will go to Whitefish, as well as microfilm of the Whitefish Pilot, Fugina said.
Both parties also agreed to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed in June 2011. The Whitefish library broke away from the county system in 2010. A press release from the county library Board of Trustees said the staff “expressed relief” that a settlement could be reached that protected all library users’ interests.
