Students Sought for Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a 10-week “Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy,” which begins on March 29.

The course is designed to help people learn the ins and outs of the sheriff’s office’s operations, according to a press release. This will include classes and hands-on experience, with an emphasis on student involvement.

There is no charge for the program, but space is limited to 20 participants. Students are required to be at least 18 years old, a resident of Flathead County and willing to attend all classes.

The program will cover various topics, including administrative philosophy, internal policies, principles of law and ethical conduct. Students will also learn about the sheriff’s office’s procedures when it comes to patrolling, investigations, firearms, emergency vehicles, 911 communications, corrections, drug education and other operational tasks.

According to the sheriff’s statement, the Citizen’s Academy is designed to develop a closer understanding and working relationship between the sheriff’s office and the public. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and comment on the topics covered.

Applications to the program will be subject to a criminal history check and the sheriff’s office will notify students of their enrollment.
