The Evergreen Fire Department is receiving a $5,000 grant to buy new gear for firefighters.
Leavitt Recreation and Hospitality Insurance, a national insurance provider for RV parks, campgrounds and resorts, recently announced the award in partnership with the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
The money will help the Evergreen department purchase protective, fire-resistant clothing that firefighters wear during incidents, including helmets, coats and pants, according to a news release. The equipment protects personnel from exposure to chemicals, heat and flames and meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
“This gear is crucial for protecting our firefighters so they can rescue trapped victims and fight fires in toxic environments,” Evergreen Fire Chief Craig Williams said in a statement. “This grant enables us to satisfy our most basic mission: saving lives. In terms of personal protection, a firefighter’s safety is only as reliable as his or her gear.”
Leavitt asked RV park and campground owners to nominate their local fire departments for the grant. Rocky Mountain Hi RV Park and Campground submitted the nomination for Evergreen and the department was selected in a random drawing.
The grant will be presented at a special gathering at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 at the Evergreen Fire Rescue building at 2236 MT Highway 2 E.
