Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands

By Beacon Staff

More than 3,700 residents were without power late Wednesday afternoon after a powerful wind and rain storm took down power lines across the Flathead Valley. Whitefish was one of the hardest hit areas and, according to the Flathead Electric Cooperative, at one point more than 4,200 people were in the dark.

FEC spokesperson Wendy Ostrom-Price said power outages were first reported at about 2:30 p.m. and soon after crews were dispatched to repair downed lines. Whitefish lost power to its downtown area and Ostrom-Price said employees were working to get it back up.

“They will keep at it until they get it done,” Ostrom-Price said.

Power outages were also reported near Kalispell, Columbia Falls, Big Fork and Kila.

Update: By Wednesday evening Flathead Electric had restored power to the valley.
