Growth Policy Changes to be Discussed at Workshop

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County Planning Board will go through public comments on April 25 about changes to the Flathead County Growth Policy as part of the yearlong update process.

During the April 25 workshop, the planning board will go over the comments it received from previous workshops held on Feb. 29, March 14 and March 28, as well as a public hearing on Feb. 15.

The board will also comb through the document one more time, according to the Flathead County Planning Department.

The updates are part of a growth policy requirement that the planning board revise it every five years to keep it current on changes in the valley, including those in market fluctuations, environmental events, and shifts in custom and culture.

Major changes include those to Chapter 5, which discusses the valley’s economy, and the addition of Chapter 9, which deals with sand and gravel issues.

A full version of the draft Flathead County Growth Policy is available on the planning and zoning department’s website, at www.flathead.mt.gov/planning_zoning.

The April 25 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Earl Bennett Building in Kalispell.
