The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the Kalispell woman who walked away from a one-vehicle crash and later died in her sleep at her mother’s home.

Dawn Wickingstad, 51, died on April 21. Her death was apparently the result of the crash, but the manner and cause of death are still under investigation and an autopsy is pending.

The crash happened about 1 a.m. Saturday when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and hit a cable TV box and several trees.

Police learned of the crash about 11 a.m. when called to investigate a wrecked car.

Then at 4 p.m. the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office coroner was called to a house where the woman believed to be the driver had died.

According to the Associated Press, Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Fetterhoff said the woman appears to have slept in the vehicle before getting a ride and then calling her mother from a gas station.
