MISSOULA — The University of Montana won’t release any more emails on its handling of sexual assault cases until attorneys in the Commissioner of Higher Education’s office review the requested communications.
UM legal counsel David Aronofsky has been handling the Freedom of Information Act requests and had said more emails would be released Monday. However, a spokesman for the commissioner’s office tells the Missoulian that its attorneys will take over the reviews to ensure privacy concerns are adequately addressed.
Associate Commissioner for Communications Kevin McRae says Aronofsky is “backlogged” and is leaving next week for a work-related trip to China.
Emails already released at the Missoulian’s request included one in which UM Vice President Jim Foley asked whether a woman violated the student conduct code by speaking publicly about how UM dealt with her rape report.
