By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA — The University of Montana has announced head basketball coaches Wayne Tinkle and Robin Selvig have signed three-year contract extensions through the 2014-15 season.

Interim athletics director Jean Gee announced the new contracts Friday.

Tinkle has posted a 116-71 record in six seasons at Montana and has coached the Grizzlies to three 20-win seasons in a row. Montana went 25-7 during the 2011-12 season, winning the Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament titles and advancing to the NCAA tournament.

Selvig has a 774-247 record in 34 seasons as Lady Griz coach. His teams have posted 32 winning seasons and advanced to the NCAA tournament 19 times. Only four active NCAA Division I women’s coaches have more than 800 wins. He coached his 1,000th game at Montana last December.

Gee was not immediately available to discuss salary information.
