Fly Fishing Films, Casting Competition Highlight West Glacier Event

By Beacon Staff

As part of its month-long Festival of the Fly, Glacier Anglers is hosting the second annual Cast Off on Saturday, June 16 at Glacier Outdoor Center on 12400 MT Highway 2 East in West Glacier.

The second-annual event will feature a casting competition and short film festival as well as industry experts presenting helpful tips to interested anglers of all skill levels.

A casting competition for all ages will begin at 2 p.m., followed by two showings of an array of fly fishing films produced around the world, including the Yukon, South America and even Craig, Mont. The first showing starts at 5 p.m., with another showing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. They can be purchased at Glacier Outdoor Center, the Stonefly Lounge in Coram and Great Northern Brewing Company in Whitefish. There will be a raffle to benefit Flathead Valley Trout Unlimited offering prizes from Glacier Outdoor Center and other local sponsors.

“Cast Off is unique because we get fisherman of all abilities up here to learn something new and test their skills,” Glacier Anglers co-owner Sally Thompson said in a press release. “It is so fun to gather and practice our fly fishing skills, learn new tactics and get geared up and excited about the upcoming fly fishing season in western Montana. Just because the rivers are high doesn’t mean we need to stop casting.”
