Mountain Bike Racers Bring Home Medals from Mount Hood

By Beacon Staff

Local mountain bike racer Ray Peacock placed second in his first major race at the NW Cup #4 competition in Oregon last weekend.

He was joined by other members of the Great Northern Cycles cross country and downhill race team at the Mt. Hood competition.

Peacock was runner-up in the Cat 2 race by only one-tenth of a second.

Brittan Ellingson placed fifth in his first Cat 1 race after recently getting his upgrade from Cat 2.

Willie Hobbs qualified in the top 10 in the Pro class and ended up placing 11th after suffering a mechanical issue on his race run.

GNC XC team riders Matt Butterfield and Eric Greenberg also made the podium in a separate competition. Butterfield, a pro racer, took home first place in the Homestake XC race in Butte and first place in the Disco Mountain Boogie at Discovery Ski Resort. Greenberg also competed in the Disco Mountain Boogie and placed third in Cat 1.

Downhill team riders will be traveling to Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho next weekend to compete in the All Gravity Series #2.
