Kalispell’s Teigan Avery finished second overall at the Montana State Golf Association Junior Championship after carding the best score for girls in the final round on Tuesday.
A day after shooting an 83, Avery bounced back and turned in a 78 at Riverside Golf Course in Bozeman, finishing with a two-day total of 161. The 15-year-old, who will be a freshman next year, ended up five strokes behind Missoula’s Maggie Crippen, who won the Class B state champion a junior from Loyola Sacred Heart this spring. Avery earned first in her 14-15 age group.
Kalispell’s Logan Iverson finished third for boys after carding 70-71 — 142. The Glacier High standout and soon-to-be senior finished two strokes off the winner, Tom Swanson from Missoula.
Ryggs Johnston from Libby finished second by a stroke in the 13 and under age group after shooting 74-69 — 157. Johnston will be a sixth grader next fall.
Bigfork’s Ryan Keenan carded 81-76 — 157 and finished fourth in the 14-15 age group.
Whitefish’s Erin Tabish placed seventh in the girls 16-17 age group. She finished with 98-89 — 187.
Tom Mann from Kalispell shot 83-81 — 164 for seventh in the boys 14-15 age group.
Brittain Walton from Kalispell shot 81-78 — 159 and was eighth in the boys 13 and under age group.
Arthur Doorn from Whitefish finished in 12th place for 16-17 age group. He shot 71-82 — 153.
Kaydee Aurich from Kalispell, 95-93 — 188, was eighth in the girls 16-17 age group.
