Montana State Parks’ website says that some of the best sunsets on Flathead Lake can be found at Wayfarers State Park near Bigfork. But visitors to the 67-acre preserve will see more than dramatic landscapes, they will also find a perfect place to enjoy the warm weather just minutes away from town.
The park, located along Montana Highway 35, provides a place to launch your boat, go camping, hike or even enjoy a picnic. There are even coin-operated showers, a place to purchase firewood and ice and a day-use area with a playground.
The campground has 27 sites for either tents or RVs and most feature fire rings. Standard fees apply to camping and prices vary depending on if you’re a Montana resident. When you’re there, be sure to keep an eye out for the painted turtles that frequent the area.
