Tyler Corpron dominated the main event and qualified for a spot at nationals in the 11th annual running of the Legend Thunder regional qualifier at Montana Raceway Park on Saturday. Corpron earned a berth to the Legend Nationals event in Atlanta, GA.
The Legends were divided into three divisions based on age and experience. Corpron won the Pro Division. Dalton Halden claimed the trophy dash win for Semi-Pros. Dave Daughtry took the Masters Division Trophy dash.
All three divisions of Legends converged in the main event for a 50-lap race. Daughtry finished second and Halden was third.
Corpron leads the CHS Legend points chase by two over Halden.
Also racing on Saturday were Bandoleros, Hornets, and Lucas Oil Super Stocks.
Ryan Krause kicked off his night by setting fast time in the Hornets. Tyler Volkman beat out Dennis Galloway to win the Trophy Dash. Volkman went on to win the heat race. Kyle Basler won the main event of the Hornet race, but Basler has been a multi-time champion in the division and is running for no points or position in main events this season. This disqualified his win and allowed Keith Sheppard to claim victory. This extended Sheppard’s points lead by 14 over Ryan Krause.
In the Super Stock division Brandon Sickler set the charge by setting fast time for the night. Adam Kinkel took the Trophy Dash and B Heat race wins. Kalispell Toyota Super Late Model driver Bodie Morton, who co-owns a Lucas Oil Super Stock with Scott Lee, won the A heat Race. Kinkel started on the pole for the 30 lap main event. Sickler took the checkers with an eight-second advantage over Corpron, who came in second. Morton rolled in third. Sickler continues to lead the point series by seven over Corpron.
In the Bandolero division the Denney Brothers continue to dominate. Brock Denney took fast time for the night. Bryce Denney took the Trophy Dash and the Heat Race. In the main event Brock Denney triumphed over his younger brother Bryce, who came in second, and Isaiah Sickler who rounded out third. All three drivers received coats, prizes, and trophies for taking part in Legend Thunder. This division is setup for younger people to get a start in Auto Racing.
This weekend will feature the Flathead Beacon Bomber 50, CHS Legends, Don K Hobbys Stocks and Bandoleros. Time trials begin at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7p.m.
