Kalispell’s Gaiser Qualifies for Ironman World Championship

Fifty-year-old Scott Gaiser qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii after an impressive performance in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on June 24.

Kalispell’s Gaiser earned second place out of 184 entries who finished in his 50-54 age group at Ironman Coeur d’Alene.

Gaiser completed the grueling event — featuring a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run — in 10 hours, 38 minutes and 43 seconds. He placed 151st overall out of roughly 2,600 entries.

Gaiser earned a spot at the World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 13.

Also from Kalispell, 18-year-old Daniel De Souza was the youngest male competing in the Coeur d’Alene Ironman. He finished in 11:59:03. Mark Fischer, 37, finished in 12:21:32. Jose De Souza, 50, finished with a time of 14:36:27.
