Annual Lakeside 5K Run Kicks off During Fair

By Beacon Staff

During summer our running community has a lot of good races to choose from — one almost every week it seems like. The recent 35th annual Whitefish Lake Run drew nearly 500 participants, including a couple Beacon boys who were more tenacious than I.

But running season is far from over. Another great race is coming up this weekend near Flathead Lake.

The annual Lakeside 5k is scheduled for Saturday, July 14 in conjunction with the Lakeside Fair. Start and finish take place at Volunteer Park at the corner of U.S. Highway 93 and Adams Street. Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.

There are nine age categories for men and women, boys and girls. Returning this year is a stroller category for racers pushing their young competitors.

Proceeds from the race and the fair support the Lakeside Community Club, a local charitable organization.

Before July 12, registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Late registration on race day is $20 and shirts are not guaranteed. Forms are available at Flathead Bank in Lakeside, Montana Athletic Club in Bigfork, Kalispell Athletic Club, Athletes Foot and The Summit.
