Hill Keeps Pace with Bullock in Latest Fundraising

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Former congressman Rick Hill is pacing Attorney General Steve Bullock in the latest fundraising reports.

Both candidates hauled in a little more than $50,000 in a short fundraising period that covered about two weeks. Bullock the Democrat had easily bested Hill in previous reports.

Hill, who last ran for statewide office in his successful 1998 re-election to the U.S. House, has almost $150,000 on hand. Bullock holds close to $800,000.

Bullock has used his first term as attorney general to seek tougher drunken-driving laws and has gained national notoriety fighting attempts at the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Montana campaign finance laws.

Hill is campaigning for less government regulation on business and more natural resource development. The state’s former congressman emerged from a crowded and sometimes contentious Republican June primary.
