A 25-year-old Kalispell man has pleaded guilty to federal charges of robbing the Evergreen Pharmacy of $3,300 worth of OxyContin in March 2011.
The U.S. attorney’s office says Shawn Malarkey pleaded guilty on June 11 to robbery involving controlled substances and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy scheduled sentencing for Oct. 12.
Prosecutors alleged Malarkey entered the pharmacy on March 12, 2011 and, at gunpoint, demanded the store’s entire supply of OxyContin, a controlled narcotic.
Malarkey demanded the keys to an employee’s vehicle, and the pharmacist turned over his keys. Malarkey forced the pharmacist at gunpoint to drive him away from the pharmacy. The pharmacist was released at a Kalispell church.
State charges, including kidnapping, were dismissed when the federal charges were filed.
