Nunnink and “R-Star” Win Three-Star Division at The Event at Rebecca Farm

By Beacon Staff

One of The Event’s true veterans, Kristi Nunnink, swept all three competitions with her horse “R-Star” and won the top CIC*** division at the 11th annual equestrian triathlon at Rebecca Farm last weekend. Nunnink, who has attended The Event since its first year in 2001, used an impressive round in Sunday’s show jumping to edge runner-up Katherine Groesbeck, who was competing in her first three-star competition. Jolie Wentworth jumped through the only clean and fault-free round and finished third.

This year’s popular and world-renowned equestrian event had almost 500 participants and drew roughly 19,500 spectators, organizers said.

“I’ve been coming here since the beginning and have watched the course, footing and jump design improve every year,” Nunnink said in a statement. “More than anything, the Broussards have been the biggest supporters eventing in the western United States. I always go home looking forward to next year.”
