Super Stock drivers hit the racetrack for one of the largest events of the season at Montana Raceway Park last weekend.
Brandon Sickler held the Super Stock points lead entering the weekend. Scott Lee set fast time for the division on Saturday night. Tracy VanNess won the B trophy dash and followed up with a win in the B heat race. Brandon Sickler claimed the checkers for the A trophy dash. Adam Kinkel edged Scott Lee to win the A heat race.
Casey Brandt claimed his first win of the season in the 75-lap Lucas Oil Super Stock main event. Bruce Stinger finished second and Sickler claimed third. Sickler has opened up a considerable lead on Tyler Corpron and leads by 31 points in the Lucas Oil Super Stock division.
In the Bomber division Chris Warburton set fast time. Josh Norris edged Cory White Jr. to win the trophy dash, his third of the season. Bill McCallum took the heat race, narrowly beating out Warburton. This pair has been dueling all year for first place position in points. In the main event Warburton took the lead on lap eight and continued to sail to the checkers. McCallum finished second and Zack Mongan rolled in third. Warburton leads the points chase by 11 points over McCallum and 36 points over Mongan.
Tyler Volkman qualified as the fastest car in the Hornet Division. Kendra Bicknell rolled to the winner’s circle to claim the trophy dash win. Bicknell used her win in the trophy dash to oust Dustin Page and score first place in the heat race. In the main event, Paul Basler won checkers in the 25-lap race, Brett Taylor took second and Dennis Galloway was third. Ryan Krause finished fourth in the main and is atop the point standings, 36 points ahead of Bicknell.
Dustin Martel set fast time for the Hobby Stock division. In the first of two Pepsi sponsored trophy dashes Ryder Rindy bested Scott Seltzer and claimed the B dash. Marvin Stone claimed the A trophy dash win. In the B heat race Mike Rowe took first. In the A heat race Jason Young edged the Young brothers, Ray and Jason, for the win. Marvin Stone, who entered the weekend leading points, followed up last week’s victory with another main-event win. Jason Young took third place. Both are now tied for first place.
This weekend is the 22nd Annual Coors Light Montana 200. Over 40 Super Late Model drivers will battle for only 26 starting positions. The events kicks off Thursday, July 19 with open practice. The sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend. At 5 p.m. the Fan Fest kicks off with a free BBQ dinner, live music, activities for the kids and the popular driver’s autograph session.
The pits open Friday at 9 a.m. and practice runs from noon to 5 p.m. Qualifying will start at 7 p.m. and opening ceremonies are at 8 p.m. The top 14 qualifiers will be locked into the Coors Light Montana 200, with the rest of the field locked in through qualifying main events. The top 14 qualifiers will run a 25-lap positioning main on Friday Night. That night will also feature a 40-lap Consolation Main where the top five finishers will be locked into the 200.
The pits will open Saturday at 9 a.m. and practice sessions run from 1 p.m. to 5pm. Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. The final five positions for the 24-car main will be taken from the 40-lap Last Chance Qualifier main event.
