EXPLORE: Climb Big Mountain

By Beacon Staff

There are plenty of reasons to hike Whitefish’s Big Mountain in the summer: the views, the trails and the exercise are a few. Flathead Industries, a local nonprofit that works with people with disabilities and veterans, has another big reason to hit the hill this Saturday.

On July 21, Flathead Industries hosts the 22nd annual Climb Big Mountain, its biggest fundraiser of the year. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Ed & Mully’s at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

The climb runs until noon, and follows 3.8 miles on the Danny On trail. Lunch will be served at the Summit House. Following the climb, join the after party in Whitefish’s Depot Park, where Moonshine Mountain will provide the tunes and Flathead Brewing Company will provide the brews.

There will be a silent auction and a raffle with prizes. Money raised from the registration fees will go toward putting three walk-in bathtubs in the organization’s group homes. Flathead Industries helps over 120 clients, including job placement for veterans.
