EXPLORE: Mount Brown Lookout, Glacier National Park

By Beacon Staff

Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park is a must-see during your visit to the park.

For those visitors who are perhaps more adventurous, a hike to the Mount Brown Lookout will provide spectacular views of the lake and also the Sperry Glacier to the east.

The hike begins at the Sperry Chalet Trailhead, which is located across from the Lake McDonald Lodge parking lot. About two miles in, the Mount Brown trailhead branches off from the Sperry Chalet Trail and continues upward 3.6 miles until you reach the lookout.

This hike is one of the steepest in the park and gains 4,300 vertical feet in elevation.

How to get there:

After entering through the west entrance of the park, take the Going-to-the-Sun Road until you reach the Lake McDonald Lodge.

Park in the lot and you will find the Sperry Chalet Trailhead across from the parking lot.
