Kalispell Riders Win O-Mok-See National Championships

A group of Kalispell riders brought home two national championships and other impressive honors from last month’s 47th Annual National Championship O-Mok-See competition in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Heidi Schmid and Katie McGilvary each won championships for their respective age divisions. Justin Wallace placed third overall and Ireland Root placed fourth.

Schmid and her partner Casey Kohr from Kansas broke the national record for express rescue, running a 10.401. The previous record was 10.408. They also set a national record in the exchange race, running a 10.222. The previous record was 11.105.

Wallace broke the record in western jumping, running a 11.220. The previous record was 11.538.

There were seven local riders from the Flathead River Riders saddle club competing in Idaho. They all placed in the top 10 overall. The other riders were Morgan McGilvary, Amanda Schmid, Ken Jones, Katie McGilvary and Carson Robison.
